Japanese ambassador calls on President

ISLAMABAD, Feb 12 (Qiyadat News): Ambassador of Japan in Pakistan, Chihiro Atsumi called on President Asif Ali Zardari here at Aiwan‑e‑Sadr on Thursday and discussed matters relating to bilateral ties and situation in the region. The Ambassador said that Japan would be pleased to host the next meetings of Friends of Pakistan and the Donors for Pakistan. The President appreciated Japan’s help to Pakistan in its economic development and thanked the Ambassador for the offer to host Pakistan related economic moots. The President said the government would be happy if Japan could look at the possibility of investing in joint venture projects in special industrial enclaves in Pakistan. The President also said that Pakistan was determined to fight the militants and will succeed in defeating militancy. The Ambassador conveyed the good wishes of the Prime Minister, the government and the people of Japan and also invited the President to visit Japan. The President accepted the invitation and said that mutually convenient dates will be worked out for his visit to Japan.

Awami National Party MPA Alamzeb Khan

     PESHAWAR ( 11-Feb-2009 Qiyadat News )     A bomb attack in Pakistan's North West Frontier Province Wednesday killed a MPA of Awami National Party Alamzeb Khan, police said. Eight others were injured in the bombing.The explosion engulfed the vehicle the minister, Alam Zeb, was riding in. Police said the bomb was remotely detonated when the car was driving by about 11:30 a.m. MPA Alamzeb khan succumbed to injuries in Lady Reading Hospital while eight others including his personal assistant and bodyguard were under treatment when a powerful remote control bomb exploded close to his vehicle on Dalazak Road here Wednesday morning. "The MPA Alamzaib Khan expired at Lady Reading hospital," SSP Operation Abdul Ghaffor Afridi told a news agency by phone. He said that apparently he was the target of the blast in which eight others were also sustained injuries, CCPO Safwat Ghayoor said that it was a high intensity blast that totally smashed vehicle of the MPA while boundary walls of two houses completely collapsed besides breaking the window panes of scores of the houses in the nearby vicinity. The blast ripped through a very congested locality of Momin Town, which is always jam-packed with the people and motorists. The explosive device planted in a motorbike parked on main road in Momin Town, Zalazak road went off as the vehicle of the ANP MPA came closer to it, he added. The injured were rushed to the nearby Lady Reading Hospital and admitted in precarious conditions. Media Superintendent LRH, Khazir Hayat said that condition of two other was critical. Emergency has been declared in the city hospitals, he said, adding that injured are gunman Daud Khan, Abdul Hassan, Haider Khan, Usman Khan and Hameed Khan. The lawmaker along with his bodyguard and personal assistant were made target of the remote control bomb blast in his constituency Momin Town on Dalazak road. SAP Operations, Abdul Ghaffor Afridi said that the city police have beefed up security in provincial capital after the deadly bomb blast. The law enforcing agencies have been put on high alert in city and police in plain cloths have been deputed at various sensitive points to frustrate the nefarious designs of saboteurs.

 

11 Pakistani arrested in Spain for international crime links with Alqaida

MADRID – The spanish police arrested 13 people tuesday on suspicion of links to organized crime and terrorism groups according to foreign news agency and local TV channel. In a police statement said the detainees 11 Pakistanis, one Nigerian and one Indian are suspected of belonging to an international crime gang involved in passport forgery, drug trafficking and people smuggling. The police said they were investigating whether the group may also have supplied forged documents to the international terror groups. Spanish police often use that 

term to refer to Islamic extremist organizations, but a police official refused to say if that applied this time. Earlier, news reports citing police sources said 15 people had been arrested on suspicion of forging passports for use by al-Qaida members. Police in Madrid said they could not comment on that, 11 of the arrests took place in Barcelona and two in the eastern city of Valencia. Police agents wore masks to conceal their identities.The statement said the group is suspected of having contacts in Belgium, Britain, France, Germany, Switzerland and Thailand.The group allegedly stole passports in Spain and forwarded them to Thailand, where they were altered before being sent back to crime gangs in Europe. In a operation, police seized numerous false and blank passports and material used for forging documents. Dozens of suspected radical Islamic militants have been arrested in Spain since the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks in New York and Washington, and again after the commuter train bombings in 2004 in Madrid.
